Started out for the evening at a city park hoping to share simple meals with the homeless. We did share maybe two meals, but were not encountered by many homeless. Our leader from New Life Pilsen kept saying we could just keep walking and that if we ended up walking all the way back to the church it wasn’t really that far. I truly believe the Spirit was leading him. We shared another meal along the way, but finally a few blocks from the church we started to walk by a young man on the sidewalk. He gave a friendly Hello, and as we had already passed him he also asked how we were and we turned around and tried to engage him in conversation. We were quickly able to share why we were in Chicago and that we wanted to share Jesus with him. He stated repeatedly that he was confused and we tried to explain that believing in Jesus was simple. He did pray to receive Jesus, but still continued on with how confused he was about how to read the bible or how to pray, on and on. He had many questions. We had brought a whole box of bibles with us to Chicago to share but had actually not even thought to bring them with us while walking. We finally said we were not far from the church and told him to just follow us and we would give him a bible and show him how to get started reading. During the whole conversation the Holy Spirit provided us with great words to share with him and provided such willingness on his part to listen and come with us. We arrived at the church, gave him a bible and continued in great discussion on how he could learn and follow Jesus. He expressed a great desire to help others so we also explain mission trip options to him. The AIM leader came and talked to him about this also.
We are now praying and waiting for him to join us tomorrow night back at the church because we repeatedly invited him to a bible study at the local church. He actually admitted he had no reason not to come! He would not be busy.
The church will be studying Genesis which I also think is cool because he repeatedly expressed his genuine concern for the earth and creation.
We are not special, Jesus and His Holy Spirit provided this opportunity and we praise Him he allowed us to join Him!
