After School Program for At-Risk Children

With day two starting we now have a little better understanding of how life works at The Safe Haven. The first day was a little over whelming with so many children running around and myself not knowing their daily schedule.

Now on day two many of the younger children are shouting "Hey Mr. Mark"…. will you come push me on the swing, …..will you come play with me,……will you help me with….
but the greatest was:

"Hey Mr. Mark will you come back to see me?"

What amazing words to hear from a child that has only been around you for two days ask if you will come back and play with them. They older children are on the basketball court with our youth group, playing ball till tennis shoes now have holes in them. Watching our kids give piggy back ride one after the other and never seeming to get tired. What an amazing site to see, our young men and women treat young children they just meet as Jesus has instructed them.

As the children from The Safe Haven were being picked up we were with the last two boys on the sidewalk playing ball. Two brothers waiting on their dad to come pick them up. I noticed a car pull to the curb and the driver just sat there and watched us play ball. He finally got out of his car and told us thank you for playing with his sons but asked;

"Why are you doing this?"

"Who sent you, who is paying you?"

We told him we were here to share the love of Jesus with the children, no one had paid us and that we were here because we loved Jesus and sharing with the children.
